Guild Wars 2 Beta Signups Open For 48 Hours

Guild Wars 2

NC Soft have opened their doors for players to sign up for the closed beta run of Guild Wars 2.

Within the first few seconds of announcing the beta the signup site was down to massive demand, but up again within a few minutes.
Makes a nice change to have support software functioning properly at times like this, unlike certain recent launches…no names mentioned..*cough* Origin *cough*

The sign up requires you to download an executable which scans your PC and uploads the DXDiag information to NC Soft, then you enter your details and wait for an e-mail telling you whether you’re successful….

Portal on Android? Check This Video Out!

Portal on Android

The award winning Valve title Portal hit the Android smartphone OS this week, except it also kinda didn’t.

What is described as a ‘proof of concept’ was discovered by YouTube user Android Police and aired in this short video, which as you can see shows that it’s entirely possible to have the basics of the game operating on a smartphone whilst not actually showing a lot:

Even though the playable level is immensely short, it nonetheless makes for an exciting conversion which would help occupy the working lives of people all over the world!…

Worldwide Anti-ACTA Protests

On Saturday several hundred thousand people, in more than 200 cities across the globe, went out in the freezing cold to protest against the ACTA bill which currently awaits ratification by the EU-Parliament.

Even after Germany, Poland, Lithuania and Czech Republic announced that they were not going to sign the bill, tens of thousands of people of all age groups joined massive rallies; the biggest of which was held in Munich where over 16000 people participated….

Splash Damage Had a Baby And Called it Fireteam!

Fireteam

I suppose as names go it isn’t as traditional as ‘Trevor’ but it’s rather more descriptive.

Fireteam has been formed by the former Technical Director of Splash Damage Arnout van Meer with new FireTeam CEO Stephen Gaffney formerly of Bizarre Creations and Ben Hopkinson who hailed from Rackage.

The aim of this new team is to create a single online services suite that supports cross platform title distribution, and while it sounds a bit like Steam at first this baby is aimed directly at the games manufacturers and publishers out there….

Meanwhile at Eikon Games….

Epoch: Incursion

It seems the lads at fledgling game design studio ‘Eikon Games’ have been hard at work on the Alpha of their new FPS shooter Epoch: Incursion.
Little is currently known about the title apart from the fact that it’s set upon a huge sandbox style tropical island, and has guns and robots….

Project Fiona Concept Gaming Tablet

I’ve never had much use for tablet PC’s beyond the occasional use for browsing the web, or reading comics. I can’t write on them and they lacked the controls for gaming until Razer imagined this:

The Project Fiona Concept Gaming Tablet is the latest vision by game hardware company Razer and I hope that two things happen with this project:
Primarily I hope they come up with a far shorter and more punchy name than”Project Fiona Concept Gaming Tablet” because, to be blunt guys, that’s never going to trip off the tongue the way that “iPad” or “banana” does and secondly, that they actually make these things because it looks like a fairly awesome concept!…

Merchant – A Medieval Corporate Simulator

Anyone who has ever played an RPG has very likely asked himself the question: “Where does the merchant get his inventory from and how does the whole system behind his shop work.” This is the “secret” of every game developer. The irony is that they probably don’t even know themselves….
